Chess Club at Oldham Central Library

Listen to our story

Welcome to the Chess Club at Oldham Library, led by Dale James, a seasoned chess player with 45 years of experience and a passion for teaching the game.

In Chess Club, winning isn't everything—it's about enjoying the game and learning from both wins and losses. Dale, a British Junior Chess Champion, offers tips like regular practice and diverse gameplay for aspiring champions.

Dale is part of the 3C’s Children’s Chess Club, working to make chess affordable and inclusive. The club organises competitions, bringing kids from different backgrounds together, fostering friendships and community spirit.

Chess is more than a game—it's a great social lesson. It helps kids communicate, make friends, and learn valuable life skills. In essence, the Chess Club at Oldham Library, with Dale James at the helm, is not just about chess; it's about having fun, learning, and building connections within the community.
