City of Sanctuary Sheffield is an independent charity, working to build a safe and welcoming city. They provide people seeking sanctuary with greater access to networks of support to exercise their agency and find safety, through providing their own services, such as a drop-in and by facilitating the services of others

ASSIST Sheffield works with people who are seeking sanctuary and who have been refused asylum. They provide accommodation, information and other support, including a weekly, multi-agency drop-in. They are a charity and rely on volunteers, grants and the generosity of the people of Sheffield and the surrounding area

One campaign we urge you to look into is ‘Lift The Ban’, a campaign to give people seeking asylum the right to work. Read the 12 page report ‘Time to Lift the Ban’ submitted to MPs in May 2025 by Asylum Matters.

Sign up to join The National Day of Solidarity to End Immigration Detention, on 18 October 2025. Coaches are travelling to Hassockfield (Derwentside) Detention Centre in Durham from Sheffield and Manchester. If you can’t make it, other groups are planning to host local solidarity events on the same day.
