Sanctuary 27 – Community Inspiration Coordinator

The role with Stand and Be Counted Theatre and City of Sanctuary Sheffield is an incredible opportunity to be part of a dynamic and purpose driven team responsible for marking 20 years since Sheffield became the first City of Sanctuary in the UK.

To mark this key moment in our history we envisage a dispersed, year-long, community-led celebration and reaffirmation of Sanctuary in Sheffield.  A celebration that everyone in the city can be part of and a pioneering reaffirmation of our collective commitment to being a place of safety and welcome.  

Who are we looking for?

This is a dynamic opportunity for a skilled, connected, purpose driven coordinator  to develop deep relationships and partnerships that bring people together around the vision of Sanctuary 27.  This person will make connections with people across the city from grassroots community groups to individual activists, from faith groups to schools.  They will share the vision of Sanctuary 27 and support people to get involved in celebrating and reaffirming our commitment to being a place of safety and welcome.

This role will work alongside a Programme Development Producer:

A highly skilled producer who will begin to develop the programme for Sanctuary 27 including key fundraising for the year.

Job Responsibilities

-              Develop an effective engagement plan for Sanctuary 27 that targets groups/individuals across the city.

-              Proactively reach out to groups and individuals across the city from all walks of life to share about the plan for Sanctuary 27

-              Facilitate workshops and events that share the vision of Sanctuary 27 and support people to get involved

-              Effectively bring people with lived experience into the work so that they guide the direction and contribute to the outcome

-              Work alongside the Programme Development Producer and other partners to help develop the plan for Sanctuary 27

Remuneration

There is a fee of £16,000 for the this role, which we expect to be a freelance position; 4 days per week for 6 months. Further remuneration is dependant on future fundraising. We are flexible, so please do share working arrangements that would work best for your circumstances.

Essential criteria

·      Experience of coordinating groups and delivering community projects from start to finish

·      A passion for empowering people seeking sanctuary and bringing about positive societal change through this work

·      A proven track record of being committed and reliable when working with people seeking sanctuary and local communities

·      Ability to work within clear timelines, sometimes unsupervised and under your own initiative.

·      Experience of facilitation of people from diverse backgrounds

·      Be Sheffield based (or within close proximity)

Experience and background

·      Demonstrable experience working in a project-based, arts / community community organising role;

·      Demonstrable experience in working alongside lots of different people from diverse backgrounds

·      Lived experience of the asylum system or migration

·      Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate confidently with team members, community groups and project partners;

·      Proven experience working and sustaining relationships with external partners;

·      Experience of engaging in and developing participatory and engagement projects;

·      A passion for the work City of Sanctuary and Stand & Be Counted Theatre does and its mission to nurture communities.

·      The ability to work as part of a team, taking instruction whilst also working proactively and independently;

·      Commitment to championing diversity and accessibility across their work

·      Knowledge and/or experience of Safeguarding best practices;
