About
Around the World is a digital art-meets-football project made with people from all over the world who now call Sheffield home, to celebrate the World Cup.
Bringing together art, football and community, the project celebrated Sheffield’s rich football heritage alongside the diverse cultures of people from around the world who now call the city home.
The bus toured to communities across the city to work with hundreds of different people and groups including; The Umix Centre, The Link Stradbroke, Sheffield FC’s inclusive teams, Pye Bank Primary School.
As part of the celebration event in the Peace Gardens, we broke a new world record for the longest multi-club football scarf - 186m long!

A city wide celebration of sanctuary
The city-wide tour culminated in a vibrant public event in the Peace Gardens, showcasing the creativity and stories gathered throughout the project. The celebration featured contributions from Amar Shah, Brown Girl Sport, Farah Chamma and Inderjit Bhogal OBE, and was hosted by Sile Sibanda.

A poem for Sheffield
by Farah Chamma, commissioned by Stand and Be Counted as the finale moment of our production of Around the World.
I do not make myself small.
It's not about being big or tall.
It's more about making space.
dribbles ball
opening up the world and celebrating round things:
planets, bums,
balls, heads, cats
when they curl, embryos, the moon,
let's try saying these things again now while dribbling
It's about seeing the game in everything not getting caught up in the names
passing in the flow of things moving between us
passes ball
even the things which make us fall, tear our ligaments, break our bones things foul and unjust
ball turning on one finger
It's about keeping the balance
Finding the trust
It's about grace
about running free and fierce and showing face
Are you owls or blades?
Which Man are you?
United or city?
Or are you a Man who doesn't care for the game And would rather look... pretty?
Either way,
there's something about football which makes the world go round
There's something about people coming together when it's here
Like now.
Interactive features
As part of the project, our Youth Theatre of Sanctuary worked with Kyle Prior to design an AR football stadium gallery and football shirt, Sam Grant to make an SBC arcade football shirt, Sally Barton to make banners and stickers.
